Overview

Queensland is vast, and there is a lot more to see beyond the host region. “Beautiful one day, perfect the next” — the state stretches from the Great Barrier Reef and tropical north all the way to the outback.

Free things to do

Many of Queensland’s natural wonders — beaches, national parks and lookouts — are free to enjoy, though reef trips, island transfers and tours are paid experiences.

Getting around

For destinations beyond South East Queensland, domestic flights (for example to Cairns or the Whitsundays), long-distance trains and drives open up the rest of the state. Plan longer trips separately from your Games visit.

Regional Queensland offers fresh seafood, tropical produce and a laid-back cafe and pub culture that varies from reef towns to outback pubs.
