🌃 Brisbane

The host city — river, sunshine and a big-country welcome.

Overview

Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, is the host city for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Built along the winding Brisbane River and enjoying a warm, subtropical climate, it is a relaxed, walkable city with riverside parks, a lively arts precinct and easy access to the coast.

Don’t miss

South Bank Parklands, the cultural precinct (Queensland Museum, GOMA and the Queensland Art Gallery), the Story Bridge, Kangaroo Point cliffs, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and the lookout at Mount Coot-tha.

Free things to do

Streets Beach — a free, city-centre swimming lagoon at South Bank — plus the free galleries at GOMA and the Queensland Art Gallery, the City Botanic Gardens, and walking or cycling the riverside paths. Many of Brisbane’s best experiences cost nothing.

Getting around

Get around on the TransLink network of trains, buses and CityCat ferries. The CityCat is a scenic and practical way to travel along the river, and Cross River Rail and Brisbane Metro will add capacity in the years before 2032.

Eat & drink

Dining and nightlife hubs include Fortitude Valley, West End, South Bank and the riverside precincts, with everything from riverside restaurants to laneway bars and classic Queensland pubs.

Where to stay

Accommodation ranges from riverside hotels in the CBD and South Bank to apartments and budget stays across the inner suburbs.
